About Julie J. Bakewell
Julie J. Bakewell is a mother and grandmother living in Yorkshire, England. When her youngest child was born, Julie gave up paid employment in order to home educate her daughter. With the reduced income and increased time available, Julie decided to pursue a life as close to self-sufficiency as she could whilst remaining in her small urban home. Running a large allotment, preserving food for winter months and keeping chickens, Julie's grocery bill was hugely reduced. Other areas of life became less expensive, too, and within a couple of years Julie's partner was able to reduce his hours at work and increase his role in both home educating his daughter and the family's self-sufficiency endeavours.
Julie enjoys learning new skills and helping others to learn those skills she has already acquired, hence her first two books, "Teach Yourself to Cook From Scratch Without Recipe Books" and "Make your own Ingredients". Julie is currently working on further books aimed at novice cooks and hopes to publish them soon.
The increase in time at home also meant Julie was able to pursue hobbies, her favourite being crocheting. As a gardener and a crocheter it was only a matter of time before Julie found herself standing in her greenhouse looking at a ball of jute twine and wondering if she could crochet something with it. Soon after, she opened Absojutely Bagulous.
